Mary arrives at her friend’s apartment in San Francisco wanting to tour the city. But she never leaves the apartment. Her college friend, Julie and husband Rob, are confused and try to find out what she is doing all day. Mary leaves after a comedic show-down and alludes to why she is a tourist who never tours.
CASTING THESE ROLES:
Mary is a 20-something comedic character who carries the film She is odd and quirky, with funny mannerisms, reactive faces, and strange habits. She is a college grad who lives with her mother. She drops in on an acquaintance announcing she is going to tour San Francisco. Instead, she engages in a series of comedic episodes, doing nothing, spilling from the couch into the lives and boundaries of Julie and Rob.
Julie is a 20-something school teacher. She is pretty, interesting, and kind. But she conspires with her husband to spy on Mary, to try to see what she is doing during the 3 days she spends with them. She is appealing.
Rob is a young lawyer, recently married with Julie, starting a career and a family. His life is interrupted by this strange visitor, Mary, and he sets about to prove she is a ne’er do well. He is irritated and put-out that Mary just appears and plops herself into his and Julie’s lives like an unwanted relative. As he tries to spy on Mary, he becomes adorable and a little bit funny.
